The Quiet Beaches of Goa
When “fun in the sun is the holiday” slogan then there is only one destination that people flock to in India. The destination is Goa. This small western state of India known as the Konkan landlocked on three sides the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka and is open to the great Arabian Sea on the western front. It is this western coastline of the state that is so well known for its party atmosphere, beaches, water sporting activities and fun in the sun.
Though the state of Goa may be a small one and the coastal line to be much smaller than that of the other states, the beauty and grandeur of the beaches here is unmatched. As this state is the party hub for all of India and those visiting the country for a fun filled holiday one might think of it to be a bit over crowded and loud. There are beaches here that have the party thing going almost all year round however there are calm Seashores of India’s smallest state where you can find peace.
The southern part of the state is the one that holds most of the serene beaches for the party atmosphere are not much of an “in thing” here. The people around these parts seem to enjoy the silence and serenity rather than the blaring music that usually envelopes the northern beaches.
The hidden southern beaches are a real treasure and is a must visit for those who are looking for some time out from the party atmosphere. The miniscule villages of Betelbatim and Majorda which lie towards the north of the Colva has some of the most isolated beaches in all of the state. The beaches here are so solitary and peaceful that one can hardly see any people around here. All that can be heard around these parts are the breaking of waves on the sandy shores and the occasional cries of the sea gulls.
The Agonda beach which is the nesting ground of sea turtles is one that is not be missed. This beach should be visited not just because it is a turtle nesting ground but also for its picturesque scenes, calmness and the aura of peace that surrounds it. A walk along this picturesque beach especially during sundown is the thing to do when here. The beach is located across the river Sal and can be easily commuted with the help of a ferry.
From mouth of the river Sal till the fringes of Benaulim and Cavelossium runs a golden stretch of sand that usually has fishermen casting their nets into the sea. A visit to this beach is a heart warming and thought provoking one. Seeing the fishermen cast their net time and again gathering fish to earn a living makes one pensive and cherish the fact that some of us have it easy. Not only do their sights made you lose yourself in thought but the scenic beauty of the beach and the flowing river too makes you want to stare forever into it.
If you are looking for a bit of country mixed along with the beaches then Polem is the place to be. The beaches here are quite hidden and you can even get to see extensive lush green paddy fields, rivers, a bit of domesticated cattle etc. Surely one can’t find a much quainter and peaceful beach than this one.
